Located in Niiho Village, Sado County, Niigata Prefecture, on the eastern edge of the Kuninaka Plain, are the remains of a jade manufacturing site from the late Yayoi period. The ruins are scattered across Oyachi, Keirin, Hirata, and Shironohata, and are collectively known as the Niiho Tamasaku Site. The site is said to cover an area of approximately 40,000 m2. Excavations to date have not revealed any remains of workshops related to bead making, but a large amount of cylindrical beads and unfinished products in the process of being made have been unearthed, along with tools such as whetstones, stone saws, and stone needles, making it possible to reconstruct the manufacturing process.
