Also called flocking. A finishing method in which short fibers (flock) are planted on fabric by applying adhesive. Most flocking is done by electrostatic flocking (electrochemical deposition) using high DC voltage, but it can also be sprayed or scattered by a compressor or by mechanical vibration. Flock printing is used for clothing and decorative items when a pattern is printed with adhesive and then flocked to create the pattern. Full-surface flocking is used for clothing, carpets, building materials, and miscellaneous goods. Short fibers include cotton, wool, rayon, and nylon. Electrostatic flocking applies a DC voltage (10 to 60 kV) to the positive electrode, grounds the negative electrode, and passes a base fabric (fabric) coated with adhesive between the electrodes. If short fibers (about 0.5 to 10 mm) are placed on the conveyor above the anode, they will fly vertically toward the cathode due to the attraction of static electricity, pierce the adhesive, and be planted. It is used not only for textile products, but also for flocking paper, wood, bamboo, metal, ceramics, rubber, plastics, etc. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
