Takemoto Osumidayu

Japanese: 竹本大隅太夫 - たけもとおおすみだゆう

A Gidayu performer. Both the first and second generations were masters, but the third generation, who was active during the Meiji period, is especially famous.

(1854-1913) He studied under the master Takemoto Harutayu V, who was a master of the late Edo period, and took the name Takemoto Harukodayu. In 1884 (Meiji 17), when Toyosawa Danpei II was invited to the Hikoroku troupe as his second shamisen player, he took on the name Takemoto Danpei III. He was skilled in the use of music and excelled in expressing emotions, and popularized "Tsubosaka Kannon Miracle Chronicle," as well as the "Amagasaki" scene from "Ehon Taikoki," the "Hyugajima" scene from "Musume Kagekiyo Yashima Nikki," and the "Kumagai Jinya" scene from "Ichinotani Futaba Gunki." Compared to the second Takemoto Koshijidayu (later known as Takemoto Settsu Daijo) of the Bunraku troupe at the time, he held a position that could be called the head of the Hikoroku troupe line, but he died on July 31, 1913, during a tour of Taiwan. His disciple, Takemoto Shizukadayu (1881-1952), succeeded him as the 4th generation and performed period pieces with a bold narrative style.

3世

（1854―1913）幕末の名人5世竹本春太夫(はるたゆう)に師事して、竹本春子太夫(はるこだゆう)を名のる。1884年（明治17）2世豊沢(とよざわ)団平を彦六(ひころく)座に迎えて相三味線としたとき、3世を襲名した。音遣(おんづか)いが巧みで、情合いの表現に優れ、『壺坂観音霊験記(つぼさかかんのんれいげんき)』を流行させたほか、『絵本太功記(えほんたいこうき)』「尼ヶ崎(あまがさき)」の段、『嬢景清八島日記(むすめかげきよやしまにっき)』「日向島(ひゅうがじま)」の段、『一谷嫩軍記(いちのたにふたばぐんき)』「熊谷陣屋(くまがいじんや)」の段などを得意とした。当時の文楽(ぶんらく)座の2世竹本越路太夫(こしじだゆう)（後の竹本摂津大掾(せっつのだいじょう)）に対し、彦六座系の総帥ともいえる地位を占めたが、台湾巡業中の大正2年7月31日に死没。門弟の竹本静太夫(しずかだゆう)（1881―1952）が4世を襲名し、豪放な語り口で時代物を演じた。
