Bohmír Šmeral

He was one of the founders of the Czechoslovak Communist Party. He was a member of the Czechoslavic Social Democratic Party (renamed the Czechoslovak Social Democratic Party after 1918) from 1897, and edited the party's organ newspaper, Pravo Lidow (People's Rights), from 1908. He was elected to the Central Executive Committee of the Social Democratic Party the following year, and then to its executive committee. In October 1918, he led the Great Czech General Strike, and in 1919, after the birth of the Czechoslovak Republic, he became the leader of the Moscow faction of the Social Democratic Party. He founded the Communist Party in 1921, and from 1938, at the decision of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, he worked at the Comintern headquarters in Moscow.

チェコスロバキア共産党創立者の一人。1897年よりチェコスラブ社会民主党(1918年以降はチェコスロバキア社会民主党と改称)員として活動し，1908年からは党機関紙《プラボ･リドウ(人民の権利)》を編集。翌年社会民主党中央執行委員，続いて幹部会員に選出される。18年10月にはチェコの大ゼネストを指導し，チェコスロバキア共和国誕生後の19年には社会民主党〈モスクワ派〉の指導者となる。21年に共産党を創立，38年からは同党中央委員会の決定でモスクワのコミンテルン本部で活動した。
