[Oshima Volcano]
Oshima Island was formed when the remains of three volcanic islands from hundreds of thousands of years ago (called Okada Volcano, Gyoja no Ikura Volcano, and Fudeshima Volcano after the present-day names of the places) were covered by the ejecta of the Oshima Volcano, which later formed an island. Oshima Volcano's eruptions above sea level began tens of thousands of years ago, and since about 20,000 years ago, it has had several hundred giant eruptions every 100 to 200 years from its central crater, which was located where Miharayama was located.
