Hakea (English spelling)
A tree of the genus Hakea in the Proteaceae family that grows in the arid regions of Australia. There are about 100 species, and they are evergreen shrubs to small trees. The leaves are needle-shaped, linear, cylindrical, lanceolate, ovate, or elliptical, and come in a variety of shapes, including entire, bifurcated, and pinnate. The leaf shape of young and mature trees often differs. Racemes are borne in the leaf axils, and bear flowers with recurved perianth tips. The fruit is a woody capsule. Several species are cultivated as ornamental trees in greenhouses.
