An old town in Higashiyatsushiro District, Yamanashi Prefecture, east of Kofu City. The city center was a former post town on the Koshu Highway, and is served by the Chuo Main Line. Grape cultivation is thriving, and the area also produces persimmons, peaches, and apples. A hot spring (simple spring, 45°C) emerged in 1961, and many tourists come to visit the town, which also serves as a grape picking spot. In October 2004, the town merged with Kasugai Town in Higashiyamanashi District, and Misaka Town, Ichinomiya Town, Yatsushiro Town, and Sakaigawa Village in Higashiyatsushiro District, to become a city, Fuefuki City.
