King of the United Kingdom of Aragon, located in the eastern part of the medieval Iberian Peninsula. Reigned from 1213 to 1276. Along with neighboring King Ferdinand III of Castile, he made great strides in the Reconquista (war of recovery) and ended it, which is why he is commonly known as "El Conquistador". He ascended to the throne at the age of four after the death of his father, King Pedro II, in battle, which led to domestic turmoil for a while. However, he eventually succeeded in bringing the situation under control, and conquered the city of Mallorca in 1229 and the city of Valencia in 1238.

中世イベリア半島東部にあったアラゴン連合王国の王。在位1213‐76年。隣国カスティリャのフェルナンド3世と並んでレコンキスタ(国土回復戦争)の大躍進を果たしてこれを終結，このために〈征服王el Conquistador〉と通称される。父王ペドロ2世の戦死後わずか4歳で即位，このためにしばらくは国内の混乱が続いた。しかし，やがて事態の収拾に成功すると，1229年にマリョルカ市を征服，そして38年にはバレンシア市を下した。
