1921-1980 A novelist from the late Showa period.
Born December 20, 1921. Studied under Yasuda Yojuro. Received the Akutagawa Prize in 1953 for "Soushin." In 1956, serialized "Yagyu Bugei Cho" in "Weekly Shincho," and started a boom in swordsman novels together with Shibata Renzaburo and others. He was also known as an expert on professional baseball, classical music, and mahjong. Died April 1, 1980. Age 58. Born in Osaka. Dropped out of Meiji University. Other works include "Two Musashis."

大正10年12月20日生まれ。保田(やすだ)与重郎に師事。昭和28年「喪神(そうしん)」で芥川賞。31年「柳生(やぎゅう)武芸帳」を「週刊新潮」に連載し,柴田錬三郎らと剣豪小説ブームをおこす。プロ野球,クラシック音楽,麻雀(マージヤン)通としても知られた。昭和55年4月1日死去。58歳。大阪出身。明大中退。作品はほかに「二人の武蔵(むさし)」など。
