A town in Chichibu County in western Saitama Prefecture. Except for the western part, most of the town is located in the Chichibu Mountains, and the Yokose River, a tributary of the Arakawa River, flows west through the center. It is the birthplace of Chichibu Silk, and once had many meisen factories, but in recent years, lime industries such as cement factories have moved in, using limestone from Mt. Buko as a raw material. The Seibu Chichibu Line runs through the town. Ashigakubo Fruit Park Village is located here. 49.36 km2 . 9,039 people (2010). 埼玉県西部,秩父郡の町。西部を除けば大半は秩父山地の山間にあり,中央を荒川の支流横瀬川が西流する。秩父絹発祥の地で,かつては銘仙工場が多かったが,近年武甲(ぶこう)山の石灰石を原料にセメント工場など石灰工業が進出。西武秩父線が通じる。あしがくぼ果樹公園村がある。49.36km2。9039人(2010)。
