Pei Shiqing - Pei Shiqing

Japanese: 裴世清 - はいせいせい
Pei Shiqing - Pei Shiqing

Date of birth and death unknown. An official of the Sui dynasty in the first half of the 6th century. In 607 (the 15th year of the reign of Empress Suiko), Emperor Yang of Sui sent a reply envoy to Japan in response to the envoy sent by Empress Suiko. The Pei family was a noble family that had existed since the Six Dynasties period, and Shiqing held the positions of Bunrinrou (an official in the Secretariat Ministry) and Korojishokyaku (a person in charge of receiving foreign envoys) at the time of his visit to Japan. According to the Nihon Shoki, Pei Shiqing and his party, along with the Sui envoy Ono no Imoko and others, arrived in Tsukushi in April 608, were welcomed by 30 decorated ships when they entered Naniwazu in June, and were greeted by 75 decorated horses when they entered the capital in August, where they were invited to the imperial court and delivered a personal letter from Emperor Yang to Empress Suiko. They set off for their home country in September, with Ono no Imoko ordered to escort them home, accompanied by students such as Takamuko no Kuromaro, Minamibuchi no Shoan and Monk Min. The account of Pei Shiqing's visit to Japan is also found in detail in the Sui Shu.
