The time period of the universe in Hindu mythology. According to the Hindu doctrine of creation, the world is created and destroyed repeatedly, and the period from creation to destruction is divided into four periods. The first period is Krita Yuga, the second period is Treta Yuga, the third period is Dvapara Yuga, and the fourth period is Kali Yuga. The fourth period corresponds to the 1200 years of the gods, and the first, second, and third periods are 4, 3, and 2 times that, respectively. The first period is a golden age in which justice was perfectly performed and humans had a lifespan of 4000 years, but it gradually became worse and eventually returned to darkness. One year of the gods is said to be 360 solar years, and the fourth period is equivalent to 432,000 solar years, but there are various theories about the number of years. It is said that we are currently about 5000 years into the fourth Kali Yuga (→ Kali).
