A ship that moves in the air using propellers similar to those used in aircraft, without using a screw. Because the screw and rudder do not have to protrude from the bottom of the ship, they are used in rivers where the water is shallow and the ship's draft is limited, and in work boats and pleasure boats on lakes and marshes where aquatic plants grow up to the surface. In the case of hovercraft, in order to make the most of their amphibious characteristics, rudders and propellers protruding from the bottom of the ship would get in the way, so the aerial propeller system is often used. However, the propulsive efficiency is not very good, and there are few water surfaces in Japan where the characteristics of an aerial propeller ship can be utilized, so they are not often seen outside of hovercraft.
