Gray fox (Gray fox)

Japanese: ハイイロギツネ(灰色狐) - ハイイロギツネ（英語表記）gray fox

A mammal of the carnivora family Canidae, with a body shape similar to that of a fox, but with small ears and a short snout. It is found in central North America, Central America, and northern South America. Its body length is 48-69 cm, its tail length 27-45 cm, and its weight 3-6 kg. The shape of its skull is clearly different from that of the Vulpes fox, and it is more similar to that of a raccoon dog. The dorsal surface of the body is bluish gray or gray-black, the ventral surface is white, and the neck, sides of the body, and underside of the tail are dark reddish brown. The back, midline of the tail, and tip of the tail are black. It usually lives in forests, shrubs, and swamps, and is mainly nocturnal, hiding in bushes, between rocks, and tree holes during the day.
