...The political and cultural center of those days was in the eastern part of the Kofu Basin, and the Kokufu (Kokufu in Kasugai-cho, later moved to Kokuga in Misaka-cho), Kokubunji (Kokubun in Ichinomiya-cho), Kokubun Nunnery (Higashihara in Ichinomiya-cho), Ichinomiya Sengen Shrine (Ichinomiya in Ichinomiya-cho), and the ancient temple Daizenji (Katsunuma-cho) were all located in this area. The post road also branched off from the main Tokaido road at Yokohashi Station in Suruga Province, and reached the Kokufu by crossing the Kagosaka and Misaka passes.
