[Died] January 16, 1455. A renga poet from the Tajima Muromachi period. His real name was Takayama Tamibu Shoyu Minamoto Tokishige. He was a vassal of Yamana Sozen. He studied renga under Bontoanshu and waka under Shotetsu, and played a leading role in the revival of renga after Eikyou (1429-1441). In Bun'an 5 (48), he was appointed magistrate of the Kitano Renga Kaisho. He was one of the Seven Sages mentioned in Sogi's "Chikurin Sho", and in the "Shinsen Tsukuba Shu" he wrote many poems, second only to Shinkei, who wrote the most verses. His style of poetry was powerful and rich in technique. He was more skilled in attached verses than in hokku. His works on linked verse include "Shoshin Kyueishu" (before 33), "Kokin Rendanshu" (44-48?), "Hana no Magaki" (52), and "Mitsudensho". His haiku anthologies include "Sōseki Kushu" (54), "Sōseki Ku", and "Sōseki Hatsu Ku Naritsuke Ku". In 52, he cooperated with Ichijō Kaneyoshi to establish the "Shinshiki Konan". In 53, when Yamana Sozen fell from grace, he and Ichijō went to Tajima together, where he died the following year.

室町時代の連歌作者。俗名，高山民部少輔源時重。山名宗全の家臣。連歌は梵灯庵主に，和歌は正徹 (しょうてつ) に学び，永享 (1429～41) 以後の連歌復興に指導的役割を果した。文安5 (48) 年北野連歌会所奉行。宗祇の『竹林抄』にいう七賢の一人で，『新撰菟玖波 (つくば) 集』には最も句数の多い心敬に次いで多数入集。句風は力強く，技巧に富む。発句よりも付句に長じていた。連歌論書に『初心求詠集』 (33以前) ，『古今連談集』 (44～48?) ，『花能万賀喜 (はなのまがき) 』 (52) ，『密伝抄』，句集に『宗砌句集』 (54) ，『宗砌句』『宗砌発句並付句』などがある。享徳1 (52) 年，一条兼良 (かねら) に協力して，「新式今案」を制定。同3年，山名宗全の失脚に際し，ともに但馬に下り，翌年没した。
