Oan New Style

The rules for Renga (linked verse). From the mid-Kamakura period to the early Northern and Southern Courts, various rules such as the Standard and the New Rules were used as rules for composing Renga, but Nijō Yoshimoto, with the help of his disciple, worked on revising the rules, and in 1372 (Bunchu 1, Oan 5), he established a new Renga New Rules by revising and expanding the Kenji New Rules. This is the Oan New Rules, and its contents include matters of reincarnation to avoid repetition, matters of form and use, matters of honka that stipulate how to select honka, rules restricting the type, number and position of material to be used in a hundred verses, rules regarding the linking of materials, designation of the four seasons and classification of materials. After its establishment, it was revised again in the early and mid-Muromachi period, and the rules for haiku (haikai) were also established under its influence.

連歌(れんが)の式目。鎌倉中期から南北朝初期にかけて、連歌制作の規則として本式や新式など諸種の式目が並び行われていたが、二条良基(よしもと)は救済(きゅうせい)の協力を得て式目の改訂作業を進め、1372年（文中1・応安5）に『建治(けんじ)新式』を改訂増補することによって新しい連歌新式を制定した。これが『応安新式』で、繰り返しを避けるための輪廻(りんね)の事や体用の事、本歌の取り方を規定した本歌の事、百韻に使用する素材の種類や数や位置を制限した規定、素材の連接に関する規定、四季の指定や素材の分類等をその内容とする。制定以後、室町初期と中期に再度にわたって補訂され、俳諧(はいかい)の式目も、その影響下に成立。
