C 30 H 34 O 13 . Also called coccalin. A bitter, toxic component found in the seeds of Anamirta cocculus , a climbing shrub in the Menispermaceae family. It has a central nervous system stimulant effect and turns into shiny, oblong, leaf-shaped crystals from alcohol. It is water-soluble. It is also used medicinally to detoxify central nervous system stimulants and barbiturates. Side effects include acute convulsions and confusion.
