A branch bay of Mutsu Bay in central Aomori Prefecture, it is an inlet on the eastern side of the Natsudomari Peninsula. Noheji Minato, at the innermost part of the bay, flourished as a base for the Nishimawari route in the Sea of Japan during the Edo period. Scallop farming is thriving within the bay, and with the guidance of the Prefectural Fisheries Aquaculture Center, production has increased year by year, forming a major fishing ground for "Mutsu Bay Scallops."
