New Hiyoshi Shrine - Imahiejingu
Located in Myoho-in Maegawa-cho, Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto City. Also called "Shin Hiyoshi Jingu." In 1160 (Eiraku 1), Emperor Goshirakawa built a shrine to the east of the Imperial Palace, Hojujidono, and enshrined the god of Hiyoshi on Mount Hiei as the guardian deity of the detached palace. This was called "Shin Hiyoshi" and came under the jurisdiction of the head priest of Tendai. The first ritual was performed in 1162 (Oho 2), and the "Kosatsukie" ceremony was held during the Joan era (1171-75), during which Emperor Goshirakawa would often visit the shrine and offer horses as offerings.
