Japanese: ヒカヤット･アミル･ハムザ（英語表記）Hikayat Amir Hamzah

One of the heroic legends in classical Malay literature. It is a translation from Persian to Malay of the Persian heroic legend that was brought to Southeast Asia with the introduction of Islam. The protagonist is Hamza bin Abd al-Muttalib, the uncle of the Prophet Muhammad, and is the most popular hero. After his death, various legendary adventures were added to his story, but in the Persian version he is portrayed as a wandering hero of pre-Islamic Persia, and became a popular heroic legend in Persia. In the chronicle Sujala Melayu, there is a story about Sultan Ahmad giving Hikayat Amir Hamza to his warriors to encourage them on the eve of the Portuguese attack on Malacca in 1511, so it is likely that this story was widely read in Malacca at the time.

マレー古典文学における英雄伝説の一つ。東南アジアへのイスラムの伝来とともにもたらされたペルシアの英雄伝説を，ペルシア語版からマレー語に翻訳したものである。主人公は預言者ムハンマドのおじハムザ･ブン･アブド･アルムッタリブで，最も人気のある英雄である。その死後さまざまな伝説的冒険談が付加されるが，ペルシア語版ではイスラム以前のペルシアの放浪の英雄として描かれ，ペルシアで人気の高い英雄伝説になった。年代記《スジャラ･ムラユ》の中に，1511年ポルトガルによるマラッカ攻撃の前夜スルタン･アフマドが戦士たちを鼓舞するため《ヒカヤット･アミル･ハムザ》を与える話が出てくるから，当時マラッカで愛読されていたのであろう。
