… In the field of child psychiatry, children who exhibited significant behavioral abnormalities and emotional disturbances began to be described and reported under the name of childhood schizophrenia, with autism or autistic thinking as the central symptom. In particular, in 1943, L. Kanner reported on 11 cases of children who would have been treated as mentally retarded until then, but who showed significant autism from shortly after birth, as autistic disturbance of affective contact, and the following year, he added two more cases and gave them the name early infantile autism.
