Nobuko

Japanese: 伸子 - のぶこ
Nobuko

A full-length novel by Miyamoto Yuriko. It was serialized intermittently in Kaizo from March 1924 (Taisho 13) to September 1926. It was published by Kaizosha in March 1928 (Showa 3). It is a personal novel that is faithful to the author's real life. Nobuko marries Tsukuda, who has led a difficult life while studying in the United States, despite her parents' objections. This is a sign of her desire to break out of the shell of her previous life and realize a real one. However, Tsukuda is content with the middle-class life she has finally achieved, disappointing Nobuko. All of her efforts to seek a real life fail, and Nobuko, struggling in the mire of love and hate, finally decides to divorce after a hard struggle. The earnest figure of a young woman who escapes from both her parents' and her husband's homes and tries to carve out a new life for herself resonates with many women.
