Aiga-so - Ouga no Sho

Japanese:
Aiga-so - Ouga no Sho
This manor was located in Ito County, Kii Province. Its territory covers almost the western half of present-day Hashimoto City, Wakayama Prefecture, and is divided into north and south by the Kinokawa River, which runs through the center. The area was originally the property of the Mutsu no Kamijo Fujiwara clan, and the local lord, Sakanoue Toyosumi, held real power there. In 1132, however, the monk Kakuban of Mount Koya received donations from the two men, and with the support of the Toba Incho, made it the residence of Mitsugon-in Temple, and the following year it was officially recognized as a manor that was off-limits to entry. Kakuban appointed Toyosumi as Geshi and began managing the manor, but it was plagued by long-running disputes with the neighboring Sumida Manor of Yamashiro Iwashimizu Hachiman Shrine to the east, and the neighboring Kanshofu Manor of Mount Koya to the west, resulting in no stability. Behind the dispute with Kanshofusho is thought to have been the dispute between Kongobu-ji Temple and Mikgon-in Temple at Mt. Koya. After the Jōkyū War, Otoma no Umayoshi was appointed as land steward of the manor, but this was suspended in 1222, and no land steward was appointed thereafter. In 1333, Emperor Go-Daigo, in line with Mt. Koya's claims, issued an imperial decree that incorporated the manor south of the Kino River into the territory of Mt. Koya, and Mikgon-in's territory was limited to Kahoku. The subsequent developments regarding Kahoku (Aiga Kita-sho) are unknown. The management of Kahoku (Aiga Minami-sho), which became the territory of Mt. Koya, also did not get on track amid the civil war between the Northern and Southern Courts, but in 1395, an inspection was finally carried out, and although it was recorded that there were 85 zaike (households), over 30 cho of rice paddies, and over 49 cho of farmland, the subsequent developments are unclear.
