Nosuke - Nosuke (English spelling) Gustav Noske

German Social Democratic politician. Born the son of a weaver, he edited a Social Democratic newspaper from 1883 onwards. He became a member of the Imperial Diet in 1906 and was noted as an expert on army, navy and colonial issues. He actively cooperated with the war effort during World War I, and in November 1918 he was dispatched by the government to put down the Kiel Rebellion. At the end of December he was in charge of military affairs at the Council of People's Representatives, and in January 1919 he put down the Spartacist uprising. From February onwards, as Minister of Defense, he promoted the reorganization of the army and thoroughly suppressed left-wing radicals. In March 1920, after the Kapp Putsch, he resigned and became Governor of Hanover, but was dismissed by the Nazis in 1933 and arrested in 1944 in connection with a plot to assassinate Hitler.

ドイツ社会民主党の政治家。織物職人の子として生まれ、1883年以降、社会民主党系の新聞の編集に携わる。1906年に帝国議会議員となり、陸海軍・植民地問題の専門家として注目された。第一次世界大戦では積極的に戦争に協力、1918年11月、政府から派遣されてキールの反乱を収拾、12月末には人民代表評議会で軍事を担当、1919年1月のスパルタクス団の蜂起(ほうき)を鎮圧した。2月以降、国防相として軍の再編を推進、左翼急進派を徹底的に弾圧した。1920年3月、カップ一揆(いっき)後、辞職してハノーバー州長官となったが、1933年ナチスによって解任され、1944年にはヒトラー暗殺計画との関連で逮捕された。
