Born: November 17, 1816, Prague, Maut [Died] June 28, 1876. Vienna Austrian music historian, music critic, and composer. Inspired by Hanslick's On the Beauty of Music, he wrote Die Grenzen der Poesie und Musik (1856) (The Boundary Between Music and Poetry). Based on research into a vast amount of material, he wrote his major work Geschichte der Musik (The History of Music) (the unfinished parts were later completed by others).
