A scholar-monk of ancient Baekje origin. In 608, he accompanied the Japanese envoy to the Sui Dynasty, Ono no Imoko, to the sea, where he studied Buddhism and the I Ching, before returning to Japan in 632. He is said to have lectured on the I Ching to Nakatomi no Kamatari and others. During the Taika Reforms, he became a kokuhaku along with Takamuku no Kuromaro.
