Questions and Answers on Customs and Customs

Japanese: 風俗問状答 - ふうぞくといじょうこたえ

This was a survey of the manners and customs of each feudal domain planned by Yashiro Hirokata, an assistant scribe for the Edo Shogunate. Around 1813, questionnaires on manners and customs were distributed and responses were sought. The extant responses include over 20 documents, including those for the Akita domain in Dewa, Shirakawa in Oshu, Shinobu and Date districts in Oshu, Yoshida in Mikawa, Nagaoka in Echigo, Obama in Wakasa, Mineyama in Tango, Takatori in Yamato, Awaji, Fukuyama in Bingo, Shirako in Ise, Awa, and Amakusa. It was published in 1942 as "Questions and Answers on the Manners and Customs of Various Provinces."

江戸幕府の祐筆(ゆうひつ)屋代弘賢が計画して各藩の風俗習慣を調査したもの。1813年ころ風俗問状を配布，その回答を求めた。現存の答書は〈出羽秋田領〉をはじめ奥州白河，奥州信夫・伊達郡，三河吉田，越後長岡，若狭小浜，丹後峰山，大和高取，淡路，備後(びんご)福山，伊勢白子，阿波，天草など20余編。1942年《諸国風俗問状答》として刊行。
