〘Noun〙① Buddhist term. One of the five powers, one of the 37 stages of the path. The power brought about by remembrance. The power to resist other obstacles, obtained through remembrance. *Shobogenzo (1231-53), 37 Stages of the Bodhi Division: "The power of mind is the power to grab people and make the nostrils wider. 〘名〙① 仏語。三十七道品の一つである五力の一つ。憶念がもたらす力。憶念することで得られる、他の障害に抗することができる力。※正法眼蔵(1231‐53)三十七品菩提分法「念力は、拽人鼻孔太煞人なり。このゆゑに鼻孔拽人なり、抛玉引玉なり。抛甎引甎なり」② 転じて、仏神の加護や利益を求めて熱心に祈念するその祈りの強さ。※本朝文粋(1060頃)一一・太上法皇賀玄宗法師八十齢和歌序〈紀長谷雄〉「知依不退之念力、得無漏之寿命者乎」※金刀比羅本保元(1220頃か)中「心府肝胆を砕て祈申させ給ひけり。〈略〉彼念力(ネンリキ)に答へて、山王七社、官軍に入かはらせ給ひけるにや、いく程なく責落さる」③ 一心に事に当たろうとする、集中された精神の力。くじけることのない意志の強さ。※車屋本謡曲・放下僧(1464頃)「かくて兄弟念力のその期にありて忽ちに親の敵を討つことも」④ 精神による遠隔作用。たとえば、物体に触れないで、精神の作用だけで、物体を動かす力。※説経節・説経苅萱(1631)中「やまといふ山に、かすみのかからぬやまもなし。にょにんとなって、をっとのねんりきのかからぬにょにんもなし」
