Urupsou (English name) Lagotis glauca

Japanese: ウルップソウ(英語表記)Lagotis glauca
Urupsou (English name) Lagotis glauca
A perennial plant of the family Leptaceae. It grows in the cold and alpine zones of Northeast Asia and Alaska. The whole plant is somewhat fleshy and resembles the Crassulaceae plant L. glauca, hence the name Hamarenge. The basal leaves are broadly ovate with stalks and grow to about 10 cm in length. In summer, it produces flower stalks about 20 cm tall, with dense flowers at the tips. The calyx is spatula-shaped, and the corolla is pale purple and long and curved, with a lip-shaped tip that splits into two. The fruit is two nuts. In Japan, it is found in the gravel areas of the high mountains of central Honshu and on Rebun Island. The plant on Mount Yubari in Hokkaido is small overall, and is sometimes considered a variant called Yubarisou L. glauca var. takedana .
