1211‐81∥82 Arab biographer. Born in Irbil in the Jazira region to a madrasa (school) professor as his father. He was also a famous Shafi'i jurist who served as a qadi (judge) and madrasa professor. The biographical encyclopedia he compiled, "Records of the Obituaries of Notables," lists over 700 notable people in Islamic history (excluding Muhammad's companions) whose death years are known, in alphabetical order by name (Islam).
