Vriesea (English spelling)
A general term for the genus Vriesea in the family Bromeliaceae. About 250 species are distributed in Central America, South America, and the West Indies. Many of these have a high ornamental value due to the bright color of the inflorescence, and are sold as potted plants. A perennial plant that grows epiphytically or terrestrially. The long, slender leaves form a rosette, with a tubular base. V. carinata is a relatively small species with bright green leaves 20 cm long and 1.6-2 cm wide, and flat inflorescences 5-6 cm long. The vesicles are regularly arranged alternately on the left and right, red at the bottom and yellow or yellow-green at the top. The yellow tubular flowers bloom between the vesicles. V. × poelmannii has leaves 30-35 cm long and 3-4 cm wide, and the plant is 35-50 cm in diameter. The bright red inflorescences are 10-15 cm long and often branched. Tiger bromeliad V. splendens is characterized by its leaves with a black-purple tiger stripe pattern on a gray-green background. It is suitable for high temperatures and humidity, but direct sunlight in summer can cause leaf burn, so it should be shaded. In winter, keep the temperature above 10°C. The plant will wither after flowering, so cut off the new plant that grows from the base and grow it again.
