There are large ones (mainly for limestone mining) that are mounted on crawlers and drill holes 65 to 150 mm in diameter and 10 to 30 cm deep, but the most commonly used one is called an auger, which drills small blast holes in soft rocks such as coal and mudstone. Augers are often small and handheld, and can be driven by compressed air motors or electric motors.
