Nouveau Roman (English spelling)

Japanese: ヌーボー・ロマン(英語表記)nouveau roman
Nouveau Roman (English spelling)
In the 1950s, a series of novels different in style from those that had been produced in France began to appear. The term "Nouveau Roman", meaning "new novel", was used by some literary critics around 1957 or 1958 to refer to this group of novels, but it soon became a commonly used term among the general public. The names that are always mentioned as members of the "Nouveau Roman" group are Nathalie Sarraute, Claude Simon, Alain Robbe-Grillet, and Michel Butor.
