…In 1926 and 1927, the Institute of Prehistoric Studies of Oyama Haku conducted a small excavation at Site A on the eastern edge of the site, uncovering numerous "thick-handled" pottery and chipped stone axes. This thick-handled type was later distinguished from the Otamada-style and Kasori-E-style pottery, and came to be called the Katsusaka-style pottery, with this site as its epitome. Oyama also considered the large number of chipped stone axes to be tools for digging soil, suggesting the existence of primitive agriculture. …
