Karatsu Castle was built in 1602-08 (Keicho 7-13), and much of the timber and tools from Hizen Nagoya Castle were used at the time. According to the Matsuura Shufudoki, the castle town was divided into 12 towns for every 10,000 koku, and 12 towns were created in accordance with the Karatsu domain's rice yield of 123,000 koku.
