The main island of the Sukuktan Islands in the northwest of West Irian, Indonesia. A coral reef island, it is about 80km long and 40km wide. It has an area of 2,430km2 and a population of about 40,000. During World War II, it was the site of a fierce battle between Japan and the United States from May to June 1944, and thousands of Japanese soldiers died in the battle. There is an airport.
