Queen of England during the Tudor dynasty (reigned 1553-1558). Also known as Mary Tudor. Daughter of Henry VIII and her first queen, Catherine. A devout Catholic, she was persecuted under her half-brother Edward VI, but after ascending to the throne she married Philip (later Philip II), the Spanish crown prince, and restored England to the Church of Rome. She persecuted Protestants, which earned her the nickname "Bloody Mary," as she incurred the wrath of the people. As a result of the war with France, which allied with Spain, she lost her last remaining territory on the continent.

チューダー朝イングランドの女王（在位1553年―1558年）。メアリー・チューダーとも。ヘンリー８世と最初の王妃キャサリンとの子。熱心な旧教徒で，異母弟エドワード６世の治世には迫害をうけたが，即位後スペイン皇太子フェリペ（のちの２世）と結婚し，英国をローマ教会に復帰させた。新教徒の迫害を行って国民の反感をかい，〈流血好きのメアリーBloody Mary〉とあだ名された。スペインと結んだフランスとの戦争の結果大陸に残された最後の領土を失った。
