A village in Ibi County, western Gifu Prefecture. Population 1937 (1995). It borders Shiga Prefecture to the west. Located in the Kasu River basin, a tributary of the Ibi River, the village has little lowland and most of its area is mountainous, consisting of the Ibuki Mountains. Charcoal production was once thriving, but it declined due to the energy revolution and depopulation has progressed. Agriculture is self-sufficient, with konjac yam and shiitake mushrooms being cultivated, and Kasuga tea is a specialty product. Part of the village belongs to the Ibi-Sekigahara-Yoro Quasi-National Park and Mt. Ibuki Prefectural Natural Park, and Mt. Ibuki is a treasure trove of alpine plants and medicinal herbs. The mountain path that crosses the pass and leads to Tarui Town was a retreat route for defeated warriors during the Sengoku period. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
