Nukualofa - Nukualofa (English spelling)

The capital of the Kingdom of Tonga in the South Pacific. One of the main ports in the South Pacific. Located on the north coast of Tongatapu Island. Population 24,100 (2001 estimate). Since King George Tupou I established the capital here in the 1840s, it has always been the political and economic center, and developed as a port city. The townscape decorated with green trees and flower beds is fitting for Nuku'alofa's original meaning of "House of Love." It contains the Royal Palace, Royal Chapel, and the royal tomb.

南太平洋、トンガ王国の首都。南太平洋の主要港の一つ。トンガタプ島の北岸に位置する。人口2万4100（2001推計）。1840年代にジョージ・ツポウ1世がここに都を置いて以来、つねに政治・経済の中心であり、港町として発展した。緑の木々と花壇に彩られた町並みは、ヌクアロファの原語の意味「愛の家」にふさわしい。王宮、王立礼拝堂、王の墳墓などがある。
