New Tahara

This alluvial plateau spreads across the western part of Shintomi Town, Koyu County, in central Miyazaki Prefecture. It has a flat surface at an elevation of about 60 to 90 meters, and in the west it forms a terraced cliff overlooking the Hitotsuse River. In Gionbaru, in the western part of the plateau, is the Nyutabaru Kofun Group (a nationally designated historic site), where more than 300 ancient tombs are concentrated. It is also called the Totobaru Kofun Group, as it echoes the Saitobaru Kofun Group to the west, across the Hitotsuse River. The Nyutabaru Air Base of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (formerly the Army Parachute Regiment Base) occupies a large area in the center of the plateau, and there is a lot of aircraft taking off and landing. The plateau is mainly used for field farming and livestock raising. Zaronbai Plum Blossoms in Yunomiya, a nationally designated natural monument, is a famous plum blossom spot.

宮崎県中部、児湯(こゆ)郡新富町(しんとみちょう)西部に広がる洪積台地。標高約60～90メートルの平坦(へいたん)面が続き、西部は一ツ瀬(ひとつせ)川に臨む段丘崖(だんきゅうがい)をなす。台地西部の祇園原(ぎおんばる)には古墳300基以上が集中する新田原古墳群（国指定史跡）がある。一ツ瀬川を挟んだ西の西都原(さいとばる)古墳群に呼応するため東都原古墳群(とうとばるこふんぐん)ともよぶ。台地中央部は航空自衛隊新田原基地（旧、陸軍パラシュート部隊基地）が広い面積を占め、航空機の発着が激しい。台地上は畑作、牧畜が中心。国指定天然記念物湯ノ宮(ゆのみや)の座論梅(ざろんばい)は梅の名所。
