A town in Oosato County in northwest Saitama Prefecture. It is located at the eastern foot of the Chichibu Mountains, with the Arakawa River flowing east through the center of the town. The main settlement developed as a castle town in the Middle Ages and a market town on the Chichibu Kaido road in the early modern period. It is a transportation hub on the Hachiko Line, Chichibu Railway, and Tobu Tojo Line, and housing development is progressing. Vegetable cultivation and horticulture are thriving.
