Japanese Terrier [Breed] - Nihon Terrier

Japanese: 日本テリア[種] - にほんテリア

A Japanese toy dog. There are two theories about the origin of the short-haired fox terrier, one that it was brought to Nagasaki by the Dutch in the 18th century, and the other that it was brought to Yokohama by the American George Morgan (Morgan) in the early 20th century. The former was improved in the Kansai region and called the Kobe terrier, and the latter was named after Morgan's wife, Oyuki, and was called the Oyuki terrier. In either case, these were used as the basis for the development of the slender, short-haired Japanese terrier, which was sometimes called the naked terrier.

日本の愛玩犬。基礎犬である短毛のフォックス･テリアは，18世紀にオランダ人が長崎へ連れてきたものとする説と20世紀の初めアメリカ人ジョージ･モーガン(モルガン)が横浜へ連れてきたものという2説がある。前者は関西で改良され〈神戸テリア〉と呼ばれ，後者はモーガンの夫人お雪の名から〈お雪テリア〉と呼ばれた。いずれにしてもこれらを基礎にきゃしゃで被毛の短い日本テリアに育種され，〈裸テリア〉と呼ばれたこともある。
