In Greek mythology, the crown was placed on the head of Princess Ariadne by the god of wine, Dionysus, to comfort her after she was abandoned on the island of Naxos. To the southeast of ε is the retrograde nova T Coronae Borealis, and in the center of the crown is the irregular variable star R Coronae Borealis. Its approximate position is 15h40m in right ascension and 30° in declination.
