The second governor of Egypt (Wali) of the Muhammad Ali dynasty. He was the eldest son of Muhammad Ali, and is also said to be his adopted son. He fought in the elimination of the Mamluk forces, the former ruling class in Upper Egypt, the war against the Wahhabis, the Greek War of Independence, and served as a commander in the First and Second Syrian Wars, achieving many military successes. When the Eastern Problem intensified over the possession of Syria, he was on the front lines and faced difficult times. He returned to Egypt after the Treaty of London was signed in 1840. He became the second governor of Egypt in 1848, but died of illness shortly after taking office.

ムハンマド･アリー朝の第2代エジプト総督(ワーリー)。ムハンマド･アリーの長子。養子とも言われる。上エジプト地方での旧支配階層マムルーク勢力の掃討，対ワッハーブ派戦役，ギリシア解放戦争に出兵，第1次，第2次シリア戦争に司令官として従軍，数々の戦果を挙げる。シリア領有をめぐって東方問題が激化したときには，最前線にあって難局にあたる。1840年のロンドン条約締結によって帰国。48年には第2代エジプト総督となるが，就任直後に病没した。
