(Germany) Geschichte und Beschreibung von Japan : A book based on the posthumous manuscript of the German doctor Kaempfer, who came to Japan in the early Edo period and stayed there for two years. In 1727, an English translation was published in London prior to the original German version. The French translation became the source for the Japan-related entries in the Encyclopedia compiled by Diderot. The German version was published between 1777 and 1779 based on a draft discovered by Kaempfer's nephew. →Japan Today Source: About Shogakukan Digital Daijisen Information | Legend |
