Japan Children's Protection Association - Nihon Kodomo wo Mamorukai
The group was formed in May 1952, triggered by a campaign to stop the sale of the obscene tourism promotion record "Tamaran Bushi" that began in Yokosuka. At the time, in towns around U.S. military bases around the country, there was concern about the worsening educational environment, including an increase in sexual delinquency among children, along with the rise of so-called "drinking districts." Parents, teachers, civic groups, women's groups, cultural groups, and teachers' unions all participated in the formation of the group (first chairman was Nagata Arata), in order to protect children from the dark social climate and ills of society, and to create and spread healthy children's culture by improving the content of picture-story shows, prohibiting corporal punishment, and preventing childhood tuberculosis.
