Italian ballerina. Born in the small village of Biscinada in northern Italy. She premiered (1841) in the leading role of the masterpiece romantic ballet "Giselle," with a libretto by Théophile Gautier and choreography by Jules Perrault, and also danced "La Péri" and "Esmeralda," and, together with her contemporary Taglioni, excelled in playing heavenly fairies. She later married Perrault, but they only lived together for about five years. Gautier loved her all his life, and is said to have spent the summer with his family at the Villa Grisi in Geneva.
