Card Tax - Koppaizei
〘 noun 〙 A national tax levied on items such as Iroha garuta, mahjong, and hanafuda. It was revised in 1957 to become a playing card tax, but was abolished in 1989 with the introduction of the consumption tax. Karuta tax. [Karuta Tax Law (Meiji 35) (1902)]
