Ifni - Ifni (English spelling)

An area in the southwest of Morocco, North Africa, facing the Atlantic Ocean. Formerly a Spanish territory. Area 1,502 square kilometers. It became a Spanish territory in 1860, and was returned to Morocco in 1969. Its main city is Sidi Ifni. It is an oasis at the foot of the southwestern edge of the Anti-Atlas Mountains, and its inhabitants are of Berber descent. Alfalfa, corn, vegetables, and other crops are cultivated, and sheep and goats are raised. Jewelry crafts can also be seen in Sidi Ifni.

北アフリカ、モロッコの南西部、大西洋に面した地区。旧スペイン領。面積1502平方キロメートル。1860年スペイン領となり、1969年モロッコに返還された。中心都市はシディ・イフニ。アンティ・アトラス山脈南西端の山麓(さんろく)にあるオアシスで、住民はベルベル系である。アルファルファ、トウモロコシ、野菜などの栽培、およびヒツジ、ヤギの飼育が行われている。シディ・イフニでは宝石細工もみられる。
